Kababayan kaya natin to!

"Kababayan kaya natin to!"

In recent years, the Philippines is one in the many countries which are starting to become victims of Climate Change. This  is because of many factors, but the main reason is our geography. With this, the effects of climate change is undeniably affecting and being seen in the Philippines. An example of this is the recent typhoons that hit most of Luzon. The official typhoon season is around the months of June-September, which was expected to have the most typhoon occurrence, but because of Climate Change. Most typhoons happened on the month of October this year. It affected many, not only agriculture or education, but also livelihood of my fellow countrymen, the Filipinos.

Experiencing typhoons is not uncommon in the Philippines, and most of the time people just have fun and ride with it. Resiliency is one of the many things fellow Pilipinos are known for. Who does it the best if not us? From still drinking even with pouring rain falling Pilipino drunkards always find a way to shot glasses.

To people swimming in flood water, even though the risk of leptospirosis is high. This is just two examples of the resiliency of the Filipinos.

So now, let us find out why we have grown custom to  enduring different challenges thrown our way. So why is our country prevalent with the effects of Climate Change?  I have mentioned in the intro that geography is one of the main reasons. So why is that? To start, the Philippines is located in the pacific ring of fire. Why is that relevant, you ask?  Well being located in the pacific ring of fire makes it so that we are in risk of frequent: earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

It also makes us at risk of: tsunamis, floods, sea level rise, storm surges, landslides and drought. Just like the Sierra Madre, the Philippines acts as a shieled to the many different asian countries. And because of climate change, it is proven that typhoons are becoming strong wetter.

It isn't only Climate Change but also black sand mining that the politicians make millions off. Which then causes high rise or sea level rise that can be seen in different beaches in  Vigan.

Thus, even after the frequent battle with different disasters. We the Filipinos are resilient. Even being faced with hardship. We still manage to smile and laugh in terms of disaster. Helping each other far or near. That just proves that the statement "It's more fun in the Philippines" true and one of the best taglines. Truly showing that we are resilient in dark times.
